WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED?
In the food industry, there is an enormous demand for solutions that can ensure product safety and shelf life while minimizing environmental impact. Traditional methods like pasteurization require large amounts of energy and water, which is both costly and environmentally challenging, and the processes can degrade the quality of the products in terms of both taste and nutrients. It was crucial to find a way to reduce both energy and water consumption while improving product quality and nutritional content.
WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION?
At Lyras, we developed an innovative technology based on UV light and filtration, which we call raslysing. This technology allows for pasteurizing liquids without the use of heat, reducing the need for energy and water. The result is a much more sustainable process that simultaneously preserves the taste and nutrients in the products. Our technology is particularly relevant for the dairy and enzyme industries, and our customers include Arla and Novozymes. Raslysing can also be applied in many other industries.
HOW DOES YOUR INNOVATION MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Lyras' raslysing technology reduces energy consumption by up to 90% and water consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional methods. It's a game-changer for the food industry, as it contributes to more sustainable production and improves product quality. Companies using our technology can therefore both protect the environment by reducing their carbon footprint and simultaneously create products with higher quality.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
We are most proud of having created a technology that has gone all the way from idea and laboratory testing to commercial use. Seeing our technology being implemented globally and helping companies reduce their environmental impact and improve their products' quality is a great satisfaction.
